Pathway For Warriors

A Mission That
Continues After Service

Who We Are and Our Mission

Pathway for Warriors empowers America’s veterans to protect Florida’s ecosystems, rebuild their lives, and create lasting futures through purpose-driven work and career training.

Pathway for Warriors exists to help veterans rediscover purpose, stability, and opportunity after military service while protecting Florida’s fragile ecosystems from destructive invasive species. We accomplish this mission by mobilizing highly trained military veterans to identify, track, and remove invasive predators threatening Florida’s natural habitats. At the same time, we provide veterans with the training, career pathways, and support systems they need to build successful civilian lives.

Our work creates a powerful dual impact: protecting the environment while restoring purpose and opportunity for those who have served our country.

Invasive Species Are Devastating Our Ecosystem

The Threat

Florida’s ecosystems are under increasing pressure from invasive species such as Burmese pythons, tegu lizards, and other non-native predators that disrupt delicate environmental balances and devastate native wildlife populations. These invasive species multiply rapidly and can overwhelm fragile habitats if left unchecked. Addressing this challenge requires disciplined field operations, persistence, and specialized training—qualities that military veterans possess in abundance.

Pathway for Warriors was founded on a simple but powerful idea: the skills developed in military service can be redirected toward protecting our environment and preserving Florida’s natural heritage.

A Purpose-Driven Solution

Pathway for Warriors addresses two critical challenges at once: environmental protection and veteran transition. Through the Institute for the Removal of Invasive Species (IRIS), veterans receive specialized training that prepares them to safely and effectively locate and remove destructive invasive species across Florida. This program provides veterans with a renewed sense of mission while directly contributing to conservation efforts that protect wildlife and restore ecosystems.

Many of the veterans who participate in this work are living with PTSD or combat-related trauma. Their heightened awareness, resilience, and commitment to mission make them uniquely suited to this work - and the sense of purpose it provides can be profoundly meaningful.

The Florida Everglades: Grim Statistics

South Florida is facing a silent ecological collapse - and the numbers make it impossible to ignore.

Since the late 1990s, mammal populations in the Everglades have plummeted by as much as 99%. Raccoons, opossums, and bobcats - once common - have nearly vanished. The primary driver of this devastation is the invasive Burmese python. These apex predators are not just surviving in Florida, they are thriving. Studies show that pythons are responsible for the majority of marsh rabbit deaths in some regions, often wiping out entire local populations.

Their diet is vast and indiscriminate, including deer, bobcats, birds, and even alligators. With individuals reaching nearly 20 feet in length and females producing up to 50 eggs at a time, their population continues to expand rapidly. The consequences extend beyond predation. Pythons are disrupting the balance of the ecosystem, competing with native predators like alligators and threatening the already endangered Florida panther by eliminating its food sources. They have also introduced a harmful parasite now spreading across dozens of Florida counties, further endangering native wildlife.

Where IRIS Comes In

Despite ongoing efforts, such as hundreds of participants removing only a fraction of the population during organized hunts, the scale of this problem far exceeds current response capacity. This is where Pathway For Warriors can make a decisive impact. By mobilizing trained, mission-driven individuals, Pathway For Warriors is uniquely positioned to scale effective python removal efforts while providing veterans with purpose-driven work. Through structured training, coordinated field operations, and partnerships with conservation agencies, the organization can help bridge the gap between the severity of the crisis and the limited manpower currently addressing it. This is more than wildlife management - it is ecosystem restoration and human empowerment working hand in hand. Every python removed represents not just one less predator, but a step toward restoring balance in one of America’s most fragile environments. The problem is urgent. The solution requires scale, discipline, and commitment. Pathway For Warriors can deliver all three.

Our Vision for the Future

We envision a future where veterans across Florida have clear pathways to meaningful careers, stable housing, and strong communities.

At the same time, we see veterans playing a critical role in protecting Florida’s unique natural environments from the growing threat of invasive species.

Through the development of our training campus and expanded programs, Pathway for Warriors aims to create a lasting model that empowers veterans while safeguarding Florida’s ecosystems for generations to come.

Pathway for Warriors is building a community of veterans, supporters, partners, and donors committed to making a difference.

Together, we can protect Florida’s natural heritage while creating new pathways of opportunity for those who have served our nation.
